What a long strange 6 months it’s been.

When we last left our intrepid heroine she was in the middle of a massive move. The NC DOT purchased our beloved home through eminent domain as part of a massive road project in Raleigh, NC.

So we moved to Durham County, just north west of the City of Durham proper. I LOVE our new home. I love the kitchen, which is so much more functional that our previous kitchen. I love our location, which is equidistant between mine and my husband’s offices. I love being in the county where we are close to numerous state parks and several gorgeous hiking locations. And I love our full acre, partially wooded lot with tons of space for gardening, relaxing, our 3 German Shepherds, and my (now) 5 hens.

But the last 6 months have been crazy. We found our home, closed on it, moved the weekend before Thanksgiving, hosted family in early December, celebrated the holidays, completed my 3rd year of grad school, managed to unpack while maintaining a break-neck and crazy social calendar…and then COVID-19 hit.

I will admit my husband and I have been very lucky. We are both currently working full time from home and are in good health. Our families are in good health and we have been very careful to maintain social distancing and follow CDC recommendations to ensure that can continue. But it has slowed down our lives quite a lot and has allowed us to reassess a lot of things that had previously filled our schedules and reacquaint ourselves with more homebound hobbies like gardening, cooking, and reading. I was able to set up my sewing room and he has nearly finished setting up his game room. We had our garden in by easter and have been enjoying the new hammock we hung under the shade of our trees in the back yard.
