A few months ago I began a practice of meditation to help with stress and anxiety. It has been helpful, although I am still very much a novice. I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to make a dedicated space for my meditation practice. I set aside a small corner of my sewing room near one of the windows for the space but I wanted to incorporate a small table where I could keep items to help me focus my practice.
I wanted something kind of special and unique but I also wanted to keep costs down and really make the project mine. I found a small octagonal table for sale in my town on Facebook Market place that was exactly what I was looking for but not really the right color. No problem! I could totally change that myself!
So I purchased the table and the next Sunday (May 17th) I set about refinishing the table. I started by sanding the table to remove much of the paint but not the primer level if I could help it and also to smooth out a couple of minor dings. Next I painted the table a beautiful ultramarine blue using a latex furniture paint. It took about two coats to get the right coverage but it looked lovely! Finally, I did a light dry brush with a metallic gold.
The table turned out great over all and I love my new meditation space. A few items of note: the painting was purchased for me by my wonderful husband in Cairo, Egypt while on a business trip. It is hand painted on papyrus and is absolutely beautiful. I also made the table cloth for my mediation table myself, from some gold silk that was given to me by a dear friend.
