New Life for Old Shirts (or But That Was my Favorite T-shirt)

It happens to all of us eventually. A beloved favorite T-shirt becomes unwearable. Maybe it’s a massive stain. Maybe its a rip. But whatever it is, the outcome is the same. A dear friend can no longer be paired with those super cute shorts or that adorable skirt that always makes you feel so chic and cute.

But all is not lost. Just because you may not be able to wear a T-shirt anymore doesn’t mean that it must be relegated to the trash can. There are lots of ways to give them new life so they can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

Today I want to talk about turning your old T-shirts into pillows. I have a Supernatural/Walking Dead cross-over T-shirt that I absolutely love. Unfortunately though I recently had my back tattoo completed and the ointment I used in the healing process stained the back of my shirt. Mr. Von Tassel was super sweet and bought me a new one to wear but I couldn’t bring myself to toss my stained one.

My feline supervisor, Sable, approves of both the chair and the new pillow.

So I decided to turn it into a pillow. I simply cut the front and back out of the shirt, turned them inside out and sewed up the sides, leaving a small opening for the fiberfill. I then turned the pillow right side out, filled it with the fiberfill batting, and hand sewed the small opening closed.

I’m super happy with the finished pillow. I needed a small throw pillow for my new sewing room chair for my back and my new Supernatural pillow is absolutely perfect. It’s the perfect size and has just the perfect amount of cushion. I love it! And it’s Sable approved too!
