About Me

Hello! I’m Valeria Von Tassel. I love history, reading, sewing, and all things retro and vintage, especially fashion. I am especially interested in the history and culture of the United States from c1900 through the early 1960s, including pin-up culture and photography, life on the home front during WWI and WWII, and mid-20th Century material culture of the United States.

Valeria Von Tassel is a nom de plume, but it allows me to share more of my personal thoughts and private life than I might otherwise be able to share.

I started this blog as a way to log and discuss my adventures in learning new (to me!) old-fashioned life skills, as well as my adventures in vintage and retro sewing, cooking, victory gardening, pin-up photography, and classic car restoration.

I also use this platform to discuss women’s history and historical domestic culture and how they continue to play out and affect our modern lives.

In my day-to-day life I live in North Carolina with my very patient husband, our four rambunctious german shepherds, three unamused cats, and 5 silly chickens.
